Yellowstone cutthroat trout in Yellowstone Lake have been threatened for 30 years by a highly abundant invasive lake trout population. The National Park Service (NPS) has made great progress in reducing the lake trout population through gillnetting but are exploring new ways to suppress the invasive population that would further benefit native cutthroat trout. The US Geological survey and the University of Wyoming, with great support from the NPS, will determine whether using a novel suppression technique, using carcass analog pellets to suppress lake trout embryos, affects the food web of Yellowstone Lake, including the Yellowstone cutthroat trout. This research will help guide the management and conservation of Yellowstone cutthroat trout by ensuring the most novel suppression strategies have no unintended consequences
