The proposed project entails assessing Snake River fine-spotted cutthroat trout populations in GTNP via the design, purchase, construction and installation of a video weir on Upper Bar BC Spring, a primary cutthroat natal stream. Video weirs represent an accurate means of tallying fish entering streams to spawn, and they minimize direct impacts to individual fish and non-target fishes. The information gathered will provide great insight into trout population status by comparing it to WGFD’s historic data on the spring and their cutthroat trout population estimates. This tool can also be utilized in the future to accurately monitor the cutthroat trout fishery. The equipment can be re-used at other sites in the park.
